Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is one of the most anticipated movies of the year, and I have to admit I was pretty disappointed. After the twenty year absence of the Indiana Jones movies I can’t believe they went in the direction they went in. It did have the great Indiana Jones feel and action, but the story and plot weren’t very good. I’m just astonished that Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones) would agree to do this movie. I don’t think that it’s bad enough to have damaged the previous movies greatness, but I don’t think this movie helped the cause.
I’m going to reveal part of the story here so if you don’t want to know what it is stop reading. The story is set in the year 1957 and it’s about the discovery of aliens and the chase of a crystal skull that was shaped in the form of an alien. I really had a hard time buying into the story, and it didn’t really feel like it was 1957. There were a couple cool action scenes and a very gross scene with these huge ants, which I thought was good.
I’m not sure where they are going to take this franchise as far as making more Jones’ movies, but I hope that they learned their lesson with this one. I think that there is no problem with seeing this movie in the theaters if you’re a fan of the Indiana Jones movies, but I would definitely wait for the DVD to save a little cash.
