Forgetting Sarah Marshall

I had seen all the previews for Forgetting Sarah Marshall and thought this would probably be another dvd rental, but I decided to go see this in the theaters with Sarah E. and Sammy and I’m glad I did. Apart from the male nudity, overall I thought it was a pretty good flick. Yeah, male nudity. Brutal, b-r-u-t-a-l! I do believe I said that a few times while it was going on. Oh, well. Seeing Mila Kulis (Rachel Jansen) and Kristen Bell (Sarah Marshall) made up for it.

So who is trying to forget Sarah Marshall? That would be Jason Segal (Peter Bretter), because Sarah Marshall broke up with him and he was heart broken. Nothing better than to take a vacation to Hawaii and forget her, but the problem is, she’s there with someone else!!! Bad coincidence and probably unlucky, too. Seeing the ex with someone else when you’re heartbroken can only be a killer on the inside. Well, what do you do, wallow in your tears or try to have fun. I’ll go with trying to have fun doing what all the island has to offer and that’s what Peter does, but it takes some REAL trying. It does help that Peter meets Rachel, who is probably the right person to meet at the right time because she is all about fun with a carefree attitude.

Like I said earlier, I liked the movie even though I didn’t have the greatest of expectations for the plot. I will admit I was wrong about it, because for me, there weren’t any boring parts or lulls. It probably helped that either Mila Kunis or Kristen Bell was on the screen for most of the movie :) There was some raunchiness, but I didn’t think it was too over-the-top like a previous “comedy” I had reviewed, but it is rated - R for a reason and not for kids. I also thought the corny Dracula puppet musical was very funny when he was performing it at the beach bar, because it was unpredictable, especially when he started singing in the count’s voice. It was probably my favorite scene. I will definitely watch this movie again when it comes out on dvd and if you don’t catch it the theaters catch it at home.
