3:10 to Yuma

3:10 to Yuma is a western movie set in the late 1800’s. Christian Bale stars as Dan Evans, a rancher who is living on hard times with his family as he fights through drought and the effort save his lands from railroad expansion. He agrees to help take a thief and murderer (Russell Crowe) to a train in the town of Contention and to the prison that’s in Yuma. Not only does Evans agree to do it for a $200 reward, but he also wants to do it for his pride and to prove to his son that he is brave and not just a weak rancher. Crowe is Ben Wade, the leader of a band of thieves and outlaws who have no problem robbing and killing people. After his capture, his crew tries to get him out of custody and nothing will stand in their way as they use any means possible to get him back. It’s a treacherous road to Contention as Evans not only has to battle the gang, but also Indians, and Wade’s mind games. Second in command of Wade’s gang is Charlie Prince (Ben Foster), and he is very ruthless as he leads the gang after the small band of lawmen. It’s almost like he has a man-love for him, it’s kind of weird.

I thought the movie was pretty sweet. Bale does a fantastic job and works very well with Crowe. Watching this movie with surround sound and a powered subwoofer makes for great movie watching as the sound of horses, guns, and trains pounded the room. It’s not a good movie for kids because it’s very violent, but if you like westerns or want to give the old west a look, check this movie out.
