I’d like to add a little culture to Dets’ blog

I knew a few things about Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi but had never heard of the movie about his life story called Gandhi. So I TIVO’d it off of AMC. Before watching it I read a few reviews and found out it Won 8 Oscars. So I though I would give it a shot before deleting it.

Wow am I glad I did! This certainly should go on your “must watch” list.

Gandhi was an amazing man and a great civil rights activist! In complex times (WWII) and in an extremely complex country (religious mixes of Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist and Jewish), Gandhi was able to single handedly free India of the powerful British rule and then stave-off a civil war all in a peaceful, non-violent manner.

To put his achievements in perspective, imagine winning our independency from the British without the Revolutionary War and achieving the abolishment of slavery without the Civil War all without any kind of military formation.

It is mind blowing what he accomplished and endured in a single lifetime. If you are a history buff and/or interested in learning more about the Mahatma - check it out! Easily 5 out of 5.
